“Hiwatari”(fire-walking!!?) festival

“Hiwatari”(fire-walking!!?) festival

Saifukuji Temple is the old Buddhist temple located western Tokyo. It was built about 1000 years ago. This event is held by this temple every year.
“Hiwatari”(fire-walking) festival is one of the traditional events. “Yamabushi”, a Buddhist monk [priest] practicing asceticism in the mountains, walk barefoot on the sacred ember which is smoldering and still burning by the sides. They pray for good health and good luck.

And you can participate in the barefoot walking after the fire has been put out. Let’s pray for the wellbeing of your  family, traffic safety and prosperous business by walking on smoldering ember.
