“Hiwatari”(fire-walking!!?) festival
Saifukuji Temple is the old Buddhist temple
located western Tokyo. It was built about 1000 years ago. This event is held by this temple every year.
“Hiwatari”(fire-walking) festival
is one of the traditional events. “Yamabushi”, a Buddhist monk [priest] practicing
asceticism in the mountains, walk barefoot on the sacred ember which is
smoldering and still burning by the sides. They pray for good health and good
